hi, I’m planning on either traveling to south america or Japan in late February. I was wondering if you had any tips on how to get the cheapest flight? I am open to flying into any country in south american and/or asia.

@sk In terms of redeeming points the cheapest use of miles to get from North America to your two desired locations will have to be through American Airlines.
      Japan – 50k AA miles + taxes/fees roundtrip
      Northern South America – 35k miles + taxes/fees roundtrip
      Southern South America – 60k miles + taxes/fees roundtrip

I personally would suggest trying to fly into N. South America. Which is comprised of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. It’s cheaper miles to get to and easy to just take another flight into the other countries.

    Hey Jon!

I just stumbled upon your blog and am reading all your past posts. I’m currently a senior in college attempting this credit card game. I was wondering if you have had any luck applying for business credit cards? Thats the one type of card I feel like I would not get approved on because I have no proof of business.

@Jeff Yes, I do have multiple business credit cards in my collection. My first time applying I actually got declined at first and I had to call the reconsideration line in order to get it approved. You don’t need to have a legally registered business in order to apply. There are many small businesses out there like buying/selling through ebay, selling baked goods, or even an idea like having your own blog like this is considered a “business”. If you have a small business like that then you have a chance in getting a business credit card. Just make sure your credit report and history is in good shape that way if it does end up getting denied you do have some evidence that you are a low risk customer.
