Tips & Tricks: How to Use AwardMapper for Hotel Stays
The past couple of months I have been testing both Awardmapper and Awardomatic. I can finally conclude that I prefer Awardmapper over Awardomatic. The biggest advantage that Awardmapper has over Awardomatic is the consistency of their content. Some hotels are not found in Awardomatic’s database when they clearly are operational. While Awardmapper is constantly being updated on a daily basis. Additionally, Awardmapper has 3 more hotel brands (Best Western, Choice, and Wyndham) to search for.
Here is how it looks:
Just like Awardomatic the homepage is kind of overwhelming when you first open it because all hotels are automatically selected. However, you can start unchecking hotel boxes that you don’t want to search for.
Now here is how you use it in action. Let’s say you’re traveling to New York for your next vacation. You can either use the map to manually scroll and pan to New York City or you can simply just search the destination in the “Enter a destination” search bar. This will automatically bring you to a map of the city and the nearby area.
Now let’s say you only have Starpoints for Starwood Preferred Guest properties. You would uncheck all selections except for Starwood and raise the point range to 0 – 95000.
In the picture above, you can see on the right sidebar that we have “too many results to display.” So what you need to do now is zoom and drag in on a specific area or neighborhood you are interested in staying. Hotels start to populate on the sidebar when you zoom near Manhattan.
You now have an assortment of hotels to choose from. The sidebar will show information like the names of the hotel, categories, and cost of points per night. You can hover over a specific hotel and a pin will highlight with a star representing the location of the hotel.
You can narrow your hotel search even further. By adjusting the slider again. For an example, lets say you only have 10,000 SPG points in your account. You will need to lower your maximum to a point range of 0 – 10000.
Your search narrowed down to only 1 SPG hotel within the vicinity. The next thing now is to book your reservation. The great thing about this website is that you don’t need to open up a new window and search that specific hotel. You can simply click on the hotel name and it will open another browser with the specific hotel homepage.
You’re now ready to check availability and book your room.
This search engine is now my preferred website whenever I need to book a hotel on points. It will definitely save you some time when looking for your next hotel stay.
